Jenna Davis-President, MOCA

9:30-10:15 What’s that cemetery? Who is in it? And why can’t I find it?
GHS, the town of Georgetown, MOCA and Harold Brown mostly agree. However, there are conflicts regarding who, what, and where. GHS has undertaken a project to expand a few binders of information into 50 (and counting) binders; one for each cemetery in Georgetown. Elly Urquhart and other GHS volunteers will talk about how this project progressed to integrate multiple sources and make information available to researchers.

10:30-11:15 MOCA Annual Business Meeting and presentation of slate of officers.

11:15-12:00 Monumental Georgetown Darice Birge, GHS
Like other communities in Maine, Georgetown’s cemeteries contain monuments to soldiers and sailors who fought in American wars. Darice will discuss inscriptions and locations of their gravestones, in particular those Civil War casualties, to look at the variety of ways in which Georgetown families honored their husbands, sons, and brothers.

12:00-1:00 Lunch
Assorted finger sandwiches, chips, beverages and dessert. $10 per person, to benefit Georgetown Historical Society. LUNCH RESERVATIONS REQUIRED BY SEPT 16. Lunch reservations may be made online via the MOCA website at moca-me.org or contact Jessica Couture at couturejess@gmail.com or phone/text 207-649-6161.

1:00 Visit Oak Cemetery
Darice Birge and Chester Horne of GHS will be just a short walk down the road at Oak Cemetery, behind First Church, for your visit. Maps with parking details will be available at GHS for other town cemeteries you may want to visit.

**NEW** Carol Start, board member of GHS and part of the town's cemetery committee, will also be at Oak Cemetery after lunch, giving tours of the caretaker’s shed, which is basically a time capsule as it is exactly as it was left in the 1940s, right down to the caretaker’s boots and jacket.

Indoor and/or rain option Susan and Jeanne will be available in the Georgetown Historical Society research room to guide you through their extensive collection and to assist with computer searches, as well. And don’t forget to take a peek at all the wonderful items they have for sale.
