"Walk Among the Shadows" performances in Eastern Cemetery to focus on the bombardment of Falmouth in 1775.

The non-profit group Spirits Alive will again be offering their popular "Walk Among the Shadows" event this October in Eastern Cemetery. Professional actors from Acorn Productions will portray some of Portland's famous historic figures who are buried there in an interactive play format. This year's theme is "The Bombardment of Falmouth, 1775." The performance is based on actual research and is dramatic, but suitable for all ages. The Eastern Cemetery, 224 Congress Street, is Portland's oldest graveyard, founded in 1668, and is on the list of National Historic Landmarks.

The event occurs at Eastern Cemetery October 22, 23, 24, 28, 29 and 30, from 6:30 to 7:30. There will be a special twilight performance on Sunday, Oct. 25 from 5:30 to 6:30. Audience groups are escorted through the cemetery by "specters" and leave from the Congress Street gate every 15 minutes during the event time on a first-come, first-served basis. Admission is $10 ($5 for under 12). Each Walk Among the Shadows performance lasts about 50 minutes.

Spirits Alive is a non-profit organization formed in 2006 dedicated to the preservation of Eastern Cemetery. "Walk Among the Shadows" is their largest fundraiser.

Half of all proceeds from this event go to Spirits Alive to help them maintain, improve, and preserve the Eastern Cemetery. Half goes to Acorn Productions, a non-profit performing arts group.

Generous event sponsors include: Norway Savings Bank, Carlson & Turner Bookstore, Coffee By Design, Ferdinand's, Otto Pizza, Maine Memorial and the Ocean Gate Realty.
