Project Description
Bayview Cemetery in Lubec Maine: This project is overseen by the Lubec Historical Society. We began cleaning gravestones in 2019 after attending MOCA's Cleaning Workshop. We were invited to host MOCA's Beginner's Gravestone Preservation Workshop 4-Day Intensive Conservator Led Instruction in 2020. This workshop was followed by an additional 4-day work session. We've been fortunate to have donations enabling us to bring Joe Ferrannini of Gravestone Matters back in 2021, 2022, 2023. Joe will be completing another 4 days of work from Aug 9th - Aug 12th in 2024.
As of 2024, we've repaired/reset and cleaned gravestones bearing the names of 334 souls. Our "to-do list" currently has the names of 332 souls on it.
Generous donations continue to move this project forward. We have tentatively scheduled another 4-day work session with Joe Ferrannini of Gravestone Matters in mid-August of 2025.
