About Me
My interest in the preservation of Maine’s historic cemeteries grew from my longtime interest in genealogy and the stories found in these special places. Over the years, that interest developed into a commitment to protecting historic burial grounds and helping others learn how to care for them responsibly.
I have been a member of the Maine Old Cemetery Association’s Workshop Committee for approximately nine years and have assisted with and helped lead MOCA’s Beginners Workshops. I have also spent many years volunteering alongside a professional cemetery conservator, gaining extensive hands-on experience in the assessment, cleaning, resetting, and repair of historic gravestones. Through this work and my MOCA training, I have developed a strong understanding of cemetery conservation practices and the importance of approaching every monument with care and respect.
I currently serve as President of the Maine Old Cemetery Association and am pleased to share my knowledge and experience with others whenever time permits. My advice is always the same: obtain permission, work only within the limits of your training, and above all, do no harm. Good intentions alone are not enough when working with irreplaceable historic monuments. Proper training is essential.
