TOPIC: 400 ODD YEARS IN ELIOT, MAINE
Eric will provide a brief survey of the land, the people and the events that shaped the history of Eliot, Maine, from Native inhabitants who preceded the first European settlers to the 21 st century community of today.

Paul Johnson, member of the Eliot Historical Society and Superintendent of Mt. Pleasant Cemetery in Eliot Maine.
TOPIC: ELIOT’S 171 PRIVATE FAMILY CEMETERIES. Paul will talk about recent accomplishments in researching, discovering, documenting and restoring the many small cemeteries throughout the town. Learn about Eliot’s ongoing Adopt-a-Cemetery Program and some recent community efforts in clearing overgrown cemeteries. There will also be a demonstration of our most recent project: a website that allows anyone to search any/all of these 171 Cemeteries and view information on those buried there. This new website allow us to share information that was previously documented on paper but not readily available to the general public. The official Eliot Historical Society’s website and the town’s official GIS Mapping Program have also have been updated to provide links to this new website which ensures widespread exposure for this historic information.

A variety of freshly made finger rolls, chips, hot and cold beverages, ice cream sandwiches provided by the Eliot Historical Society $8.00 per person. LUNCH RESERVATIONS REQUIRED by July 15th. 1:00-2:30 Cemetery Tours
Guided tour of Mt Pleasant Cemetery, located at 1145 State Rd., and Eliot’s #8 Schoolhouse, a one room schoolhouse museum located at 67 Greenwood St, just across the street from Mt Pleasant Cemetery. Please park on the cemetery roads near the cemetery chapel. Do not park on the grass.
