      <title>MOCA Intro Skills Workshop (20 Sep 2026)</title>

Learn about forming a cemetery committee, documenting a cemetery, preservation techniques, and best practices while gaining practical experience caring for these important historic spaces.

&lt;p&gt;&lt;strong&gt;11:30 - 12:00 Cemetery Assessment Walking Tour&lt;/strong&gt;&lt;br&gt;
Learn about the different styles and materials of gravestones. We will look at gravestones in need of repair and discuss methods of repair.&lt;/p&gt;

&lt;p&gt;&lt;strong&gt;12:00 - 12:30 Lunch&lt;br&gt;&lt;/strong&gt;Bring your own lunch&lt;/p&gt;

&lt;p&gt;&lt;strong&gt;12:30 - 3:00 Cleaning and Leaning&lt;/strong&gt;&lt;br&gt;
We will demonstrate how to safely clean gravestones using best practices. Afterwards, see a demonstration on how to straighten a leaning tablet style gravestone.&lt;/p&gt;

&lt;p align="center"&gt;&lt;strong&gt;This workshop is limited to 25 people.&lt;br&gt;
Donations will be accepted each day of the workshop.&lt;br&gt;

Collections Chairman &amp;amp; Curator, Henry Knox Museum&lt;br&gt;
The presentation will focus on who Henry Knox was, his critical role as Chief of Artillery for the Continental Army during the Revolutionary War, and his close relationship with George Washington. James will also discuss Knox's importance as a founding father and the nation's first Secretary of War, concluding with Henry and Lucy Knox's life and impact on Midcoast Maine.&lt;/p&gt;

&lt;p&gt;Visit the recently conserved Merriman Cemetery, a project of the Owls Head Cemetery Committee undertaken with professional conservator Joe Ferrannini of Grave Stone Matters.&lt;/p&gt;

&lt;p&gt;Learn the story of Owls Head Lightkeeper Llewellyn Norwood, who died at the lighthouse on April 13, 1911. Is Llewellyn really interred in Owls Head—or in his hometown of Southwest Harbor, as originally intended? Discover how the muddy roads of an early Maine spring may have changed those plans and created a mystery that remains more than a century later.&lt;/p&gt;</description>
